How to create and manage API templates

Last updated October 14, 2026

Who can use this feature?
Admins only.
Availability depends on your Atlas plan.

Overview

API templates let you save a request to an external system once and reuse it across Atlas. Each template stores a name, a description, the request method, the endpoint URL, and any headers the API needs, such as an authorization key. Once saved, the template can be used in dynamic custom fields, chatbots, and workflow blocks, so nobody has to re-enter the URL or paste the access key again.

API templates are a global setup: an Admin creates a template once and it becomes available to the whole workspace.

Key Features

  • Reusable requests: Configure a request once and reuse it in dynamic custom fields, chatbots, and workflow blocks.
  • Method selection: Choose the request method from the "Method" dropdown. "GET" is the default and is used to fetch data such as lists and options.
  • Custom headers: Add one or more headers as key-value pairs, for example an "Authorization" header with an access key.
  • Shared library: The "API templates" page lists every saved template with its "Name", "Method", and "Description", and includes a "Filter..." search.
  • Edit and delete: Update or remove a template at any time from the Actions menu on its row.

How to create an API template

Use this guide to save a reusable request to an external API.

Requirements:
The endpoint URL and any required headers from the API's documentation.
  1. Go to  "App Configuration > Data > API templates" .
  2. Click "Add API template".
  3. Configure the fields:
  • "Name" (required): Enter a clear name your teammates will recognize, for example "Get Products List".
  • "Description": Enter a short note on what the request returns. One sentence is usually enough.
  • "Method": Open the dropdown and select the request method. Select "GET" to fetch data such as lists and options.
  • "URL" (required): Enter the endpoint URL Atlas will call.
  1. (Optional) Add headers. Click "Add key-value pair", then enter: Repeat this step for each header the API requires. For example (placeholder values): Name: Get Products List Description: Fetches the product list from the external catalog. Method: GET URL: https://api.acme.com/v1/products Header name: Authorization Header value: Bearer <your-access-key>
  • "Header name": The header name the API documentation asks for, for example Authorization.
  • "Header value": The value for that header, for example the access key.
  1. Click "Save".

The template appears in the "API templates" list and can now be used in dynamic custom fields, chatbots, and workflow blocks.

Important:
You set a header value once in the template. Anyone using the template does not need to paste the key again.

How to delete an API template

  1. Go to  "App Configuration > Data > API templates" .
  2. Locate the template and open the Actions menu at the end of its row.
  3. Select "Delete".
Warning:
Deleting removes the template for good. Check that nothing in Atlas still relies on the template first.
