How to connect the Close integration

Last updated October 20, 2026

Who can use this feature?
Admins only.

Overview

The Close integration connects your Close account to Atlas, so agents can see who a customer is without leaving the ticket. Close contacts sync into Atlas as customers, Close accounts sync into Atlas as accounts, and you choose which Close activity (calls, emails, meetings, tasks and notes) agents see on the customer timeline. In the other direction, Atlas shares tickets and customer notes back to the customer's profile in Close, so your sales team can see the support history.

For example, a customer emails support right after a sales call. The agent sees the meeting and the latest Close emails on the timeline and replies with the full context. Meanwhile, the account manager sees the open ticket in Close before following up.

You connect Close with an API key, then complete a four-tab configuration: "Customers", "Accounts", "Activities" and "Tickets & Notes". After you finish the setup, Atlas imports your Close data in the background.

The Close integration is a global setup: an Admin connects and configures it once for the whole workspace. In Atlas, it appears as "Close (Legacy)".

How to connect the Close integration

Use this guide to connect Close with an API key, map customer and account fields, choose which activities sync, and share tickets and notes back to Close.

Requirements:
•  You need admin access to a Close account and an API key (Settings > Developer > API Keys).
•  To map Close fields to custom fields, create the custom fields in Atlas first.

Connect your Close account

  1. Open the main menu and go to "App Configuration > Integrations > Close (Legacy)".
  2. Click "Connect to Close (Legacy)".
  3. Review the Close data Atlas will be able to read, then click "Next".
  4. In Close, open "Settings > Developer >API Keys".
  5. Click "New API Key", give it a clear name, for example "Atlas key", click "Create API Key" and copy the key.
  6. Back in Atlas, paste the key into the API key field and click "Next". Atlas checks the key before continuing.
  7. Click "Next" on the following screens, then click "Finish".
  8. Click "Needs Configuration", then click "Configure" to open the mapping screen.
Warning:
Treat the API key like a password. Anyone who has it can read your Close data. Don't share it, and revoke it in Close if it's exposed.
Important:
No data syncs until you finish the setup. The status shows "Needs Configuration" until then.

Configure the "Customers" tab (Close to Atlas)

The "Customers" tab maps Close contacts to Atlas customers. Close fields are in the left column ("CRM") and Atlas fields are in the right column ("Atlas").

  1. Under "Map CRM customers to customers", open the dropdown for each row and select the matching Close field:
Atlas fieldClose (CRM) field
First nameFirst name
Last nameLast name
EmailPrimary email
  • (Optional) To bring in other Close data, under "Map custom fields for CRM customers to customers", click "Map new field".
  • On the Close side of the new row, click "Select a field" and choose a Close field. For example, "Close CRM Contact ID", so every Atlas customer keeps a reference to their Close record.
  • On the Atlas side of the row, click "Select a field" and choose the Atlas custom field that should hold the value.
  • Repeat for each field you need, then click "Next".

Configure the "Accounts" tab (Close to Atlas)

The "Accounts" tab maps Close accounts to Atlas accounts.

  1. Under "Map CRM accounts to accounts", select the matching Close field for "Name".
  2. (Optional) Click "Map new field" to map other account fields, as on the "Customers" tab.
  3. Click "Next".

Configure the "Activities" tab (Close to Atlas)

The "Activities" tab doesn't use field mapping. Instead, you choose which Close activities appear on the Atlas customer timeline.

  1. Turn on the toggles for the activities you want agents to see:
  • "Show call in Atlas"
  • "Show email in Atlas": Agents see past Close conversations without leaving the ticket.
  • "Show meeting in Atlas": Useful when a customer writes in right after a sales call.
  • "Show task in Atlas": Shows open Close follow-ups next to the conversation.
  • "Show note in Atlas"
  1. Click "Next".

Configure the "Tickets & Notes" tab (Atlas to Close)

The "Tickets & Notes" tab sends information the other way, from Atlas to Close.

  1. Turn on "Show customer notes in Atlas" to add your agents' customer notes to the customer's profile in Close.
  2. Turn on "Show tickets in Atlas" so your sales team sees support tickets in Close.
  3. Click "Finish Integration Setup".
Important:
The first import can take up to 24 hours depending on the number of contacts and accounts.

How to verify the sync

  1. In Close, note a contact (name and email) and an account you expect to see in Atlas.
  2. In Atlas, open the main menu and select  "Customers" .
  3. Click the search icon and search for the contact by name or email. The customer appears with the mapped details.
  4. Open your accounts list in Atlas and check that the Close account appears under "Name".

How to disconnect the Close integration

  1. Go to "App Configuration > Integrations > Close (Legacy)".
  2. Click "Disconnect Close (Legacy)" and click "Confirm".
Warning:
Data stops syncing in both directions until you connect Close again. The API key still exists in Close, so revoke it there if you no longer need it.

FAQs & Troubleshooting

Why is no Close data showing in Atlas yet?

Check the following:

  • The integration status isn't still "Needs Configuration". Data only flows after you click "Finish Integration Setup".
  • The import is still running. It can take up to 24 hours depending on the number of contacts and accounts.
  • The API key is still active in Close. If it was revoked, create a new key and connect again.

Why can't Atlas validate my API key?

Make sure you copied the whole key from Close with the copy icon and pasted it without extra spaces. If it still fails, create a new key in "Settings > Developer" in Close.

Why can't I find my Atlas custom field when mapping?

The Atlas side of a custom mapping only lists custom fields that already exist in your workspace. Create the custom field in Atlas first, then map it.

Can I turn off an activity type later?

Yes. You can come back and turn any of the activity toggles off later.

Which direction does each tab sync?

"Customers", "Accounts" and "Activities" sync from Close to Atlas. "Tickets & Notes" syncs from Atlas to Close.

What happens to my API key when I disconnect?

It stays in Close. You can reuse it to connect again or revoke it in "Settings > Developer" in Close.
