How to set up two-factor authentication (2FA)

Last updated October 6, 2026

Who can use this feature?
Admins only.
Availability depends on your Atlas plan.

Overview

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second layer of security on top of passwords when your team signs in to Atlas. When it is turned on in " Settings > Security ", two-factor authentication becomes required for every teammate signing in to the workspace, which helps protect your team's accounts and your customers' conversations even if a password is weak or exposed.

This is a global setting: an Admin turns it on once for the whole workspace, and it applies to every teammate. You can turn it off again at any time if your security policy changes.

Key Features

  • Workspace-wide enforcement: A single toggle makes two-factor authentication required for every teammate signing in.
  • Easy to turn on or off: Turn the toggle off at any time to relax the requirement when your policy changes.
  • Immediate effect: After you click "Save", the new security policy applies across the team.

How to turn on two-factor authentication

Turning on 2FA requires every teammate to complete a second verification step when they sign in.

  1. Click the main menu in the top left corner.
  2. Go to " Settings > Security ".
  3. Turn on the two-factor authentication toggle. Two-factor authentication becomes required for every teammate signing in.
  4. Click "Save".

Atlas displays the "Updated Security settings." message. The new security policy applies across the team.

Important:
•  Let your team know before you turn on 2FA, so teammates are ready for the extra step the next time they sign in.

How to turn off two-factor authentication

  1. Click the main menu and go to " Settings > Security " .
  2. Turn off the two-factor authentication toggle.
  3. Click "Save".

Atlas displays the "Updated Security settings." message. Two-factor authentication is no longer required to sign in.

Important:

FAQs & Troubleshooting

Who does the 2FA setting apply to?

It applies to every teammate who signs in to the workspace. It is a single, workspace-wide setting, not a per-user preference.

I turned on the toggle, but nothing changed. Why?

Make sure you clicked "Save" and saw the "Updated Security settings." message. The setting is only applied after you save.

Can I turn 2FA off after turning it on?

Yes. Go to " Settings > Security ", turn off the toggle and click "Save".

I cannot find "Security" in Settings. Why?

"Security" is only available to Admins. Agents' "Settings" menu shows only "Profile", "Team", "Notifications" and "Schedule". Ask an Admin of your workspace to change the 2FA setting.
